If you regularly send parcels from Great Britain to Northern Ireland, there's an important update coming your way. From March 31, 2025, new rules under the Windsor Framework will change the way shipments are handled.

What’s the Windsor Framework?
Back in 2023, the UK and EU agreed on the Windsor Framework—a plan designed to make trade between GB and NI smoother while ensuring Northern Ireland’s place in the UK. These new arrangements were put in place to replace the old Northern Ireland Protocol and address trade challenges.
What’s changing for parcels?
Starting in March 2025, all parcels moving from GB to NI will require additional data, including:
A plain English description of each item
The weight of each item
The item's value
The item's country of origin
For B2B shipments
Green Lane: If your business sends goods only within the UK (GB to NI), you can register under the UK Internal Market Scheme (UKIMS). This allows for simpler movement without extra EU checks.
At-Risk Shipments: If your goods might enter the EU from NI, a full international dataset will be required for the declaration, which will be charged at the applicable rate of duty in the EU.
What next?
To keep things moving smoothly, check if your business qualifies for UKIMS and get registered if needed. For more details, visit www.gov.uk or contact your local AWL office for expert guidance.
